Color experts from AkzoNobel and Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum have developed a new range of colors which now makes it possible for anyone to turn their home into a masterpiece. Inspired by ten of Vincent van Gogh’s best-loved works, the launch of the paint range builds on AkzoNobel’s sponsorship of the museum’s restoration workshop, where some of the artist’s treasured paintings are being preserved. Speaking at the official handover of the Van Gogh color palette, AkzoNobel CEO Ton Büchner said: “We attach great value to our collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum. We feel privileged to be contributing to his enduring legacy, not only as a Dutch company, but also as experts in the field of color. As an international organization with a focus on protecting culture and tradition, we’re also committed to ensuring that our knowledge and experience help people to embrace their heritage and keep it alive.” Ruud Joosten, AkzoNobel’s Executive Committee member responsible for Decorative Paints, added: “Color and heritage are vital elements of our global Human Cities initiative because they help shape the identity of a society. And this palette lets everyone enjoy a little piece of heritage in their own homes.” The idea of making the shades available to the public was prompted by analysis of the characteristic colors used by Van Gogh, such as the blue sky in Almond Blossom and the yellow in the world famous Sunflowers. “This marvelous paint range is an example of how the partnership between the Van Gogh Museum and AkzoNobel can be mutually beneficial,” said Axel Rüger, director of the Van Gogh Museum. “We are very proud of the new palette, which builds on the support AkzoNobel is providing for our restoration workshop. The color range is also evidence that Van Gogh’s art is still a daily inspiration, which will soon be available to help make people’s homes more beautiful.” The ten new colors will be available in the Netherlands as of November 15 from Sikkens outlets and will then be gradually rolled out to other countries. The full palette of colors features: Sun Yellow, The Yellow House, Sunflower Yellow, Felt Beige, Blossom White, Daubigny Green, Forest Green, Sky Blue, Iris Blue and Bedroom Red. As a partner of the Van Gogh Museum’s restoration workshop, AkzoNobel is contributing to the preservation of the cultural heritage of Vincent van Gogh and his contemporaries. The company and its Sikkens brand also advises the Van Gogh Museum on innovative and sustainable paint products for the museum’s interior.
